  21. AmigaWriter is the ideal program for pupils, students and engineers
  22. because it provides real footnotes and can even import Word
  23. documents from Windows PCs o Macintosh computers. On top of that
  24. AmigaWriter offers a refined chapter management system and can

  79. 1. MSWord Import
  80.  
  81. AmigaWriter 2.0 is able to import MSWord 8 (MSWord 95) documents.
  82. The following properties of the documents are supported:
  83.  
  84. a) The text itself including all umlauts and European special
  85.    characters, but not Unicode (Japanese, etc.).
  86.  
  87. b) Paragraph formatting such as alignment (left, right, aligned,
  88.    centered), indentation, tab stops, row distance, paragraph
  89.    distance, etc.

  91. c) Character formatting such as font, size, style (bold, italics,
  92.    underlined, strikeout, small caps), color etc.

  94. MSWord documents are automatically recognized and loaded, it is
  95. not necessary to call a special import command.

  98. 2. TrueType Font Engine
  99.  
  100. AmigaWriter now features a TrueType font engine. This has a number
  101. of advantages over using the AmigaOS font engine:
  102.  
  103. a) On-screen anti-aliasing: For the first time it is possible
  104.    to sensibly work with 8 or 10 point fonts on an Amiga computer.
  105.  
  106. b) Simple font installation: Any directory that contains TrueType
  107.    font files can simply be added to the font path. No files in
  108.    addition to the .ttf files are needed and there is no necessity
  109.    for a separate font installation program.

  112. 3. Font substitution
  113.  
  114. Especially in context with the MSWord import it is important that
  115. AmigaWriter allows for the substitution of unknown fonts with fonts
  116. available in the system. Every time AmigaWriter encounters a
  117. reference to a font that can not be found it opens a dialog window
  118. (with preview) for choosing a replacement font.
  119. The actual font name does not get lost in the document, the font
  120. is only substituted in the screen display.
  121. Font substitution also allows you to choose a different style
  122. (e.g. Helvetica Black is substituted with Triumvirate + Bold).
  123. The font substitution table is saved along with the program preferences.

  126. 4. AmigaOS 3.5 Support
  127.  
  128. AmigaWriter supports all new features AmigaOS 3.5 offers for
  129. printer output:
  130.  
  131. a) You can choose one of the 10 printer units to easily switch
  132.    e.g. between printer output, fax output and network printing.
  133.  
  134. b) Print margins can be obtained from the printer driver.
  135.  
  136. c) The user interface adapts itself to the driver and displays
  137.    additional information on the selected print resolution, etc.

  140. 5. Printing of booklets, landscape printing, tiled printing
  141.  
  142. AmigaWriter is now capable of printing on A4 pages or letter
  143. envelopes in landscape orientation.
  144. Booklet printing allows for the comfortable creation of booklets
  145. with double-sided printing (such as this one). When printing, two
  146. A5 pages are printed onto one sheet of A4 paper. In combination
  147. with double-sided printing all it takes is to crease the paper
  148. along the middle to obtain the finished booklet. The exact placement
  149. of the pages on the paper is handled entirely by AmigaWriter.
  150. Tiled printing enables you to print as many pages (e.g. 3 pages
  151. top-down, and 2 pages across) on a single sheet of paper, e.g.
  152. for printing business cards.

  155. 6. True color printing even without graphics board
  156.  
  157. All image processing is performed without resorting to the
  158. AmigaOS graphics libraries or third party graphics drivers.
  159. This enables users who do not own a graphics board to perform
  160. true-color printing on any system with OS 3.5 and/or Turboprint.
  161. On OS 3.1 systems without graphics board there are still 4096
  162. colors available.
  163. This also eliminates the annoying background screen that up
  164. to know had to be opened during printer output.

  167. 7. Very fast black&white printing
  168.  
  169. You can order AmigaWriter to perform all graphics processing in
  170. black&white only. This is very fast and memory-conserving.

  173. 8. Faster output on ECS/AGA
  174.  
  175. AmigaWriter can be configured to utilize a special 4-color
  176. mode for all display operations. This results in only four
  177. colors (black, white, grey, blue) being used for all screen
  178. displays, even on screens with higher color depths (such as
  179. 256 colors). All images are displayed in black&white only.
  180. This mode gains a lot of speed on machines with a fast CPU
  181. (68060 or PPC) and AGA graphics.

  184. 9. Improved image cache.

  186. The original image data is held in a cache, eliminating the
  187. need for frequent reloads when scrolling text or printing
  188. the document.

  191. 10. A lot more improvements have found their way into
  192.     AmigaWriter 2.0

  194. Among them are:

  196. a) The AmigaWriter: assign is set automatically upon program
  197.    start (if not already present).

  199. b) The settings and document directories are created auto-
  200.    matically if necessary.

  202. c) The ASL requester for loading and saving documents acts
  203.    a lot more sane and does not always return to the document
  204.    directory.

  206. d) Graphics glitches that occurred when scrolling and near boxes
  207.    that were close to page borders have been corrected.
